As part of our work for the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence campaign (25th November to 10th December), we are putting on a series of events. We hope to use our events to provide safe spaces for individuals to express themselves, connect with their bodies, develop skills for wellbeing and engage in meaningful activism.
Our accredited guest coach from Power For Women will take you through techniques to help disengage and evade tricky situations to help keep you safe and improve your confidence.
The goal is to equip participants so you can walk away confidently with a set of skills you can use right away should you need to.
These sessions are designed with women and women's biology in mind. Men's and women's self defence require different techniques, tactics, and approaches. If you're a member of the trans community, identify as non-binary, or have another query regarding suitability or accessibility, please get in touch with us at suevents@shu.ac.uk and we'll do our best to advise on a case-by-case basis.
Please wear comfortable clothing you can easily move around in and trainers. We advise you do not wear jewellery that could be caught or damaged. Please leave valuables at home - we cannot be held responsible for any lost or stolen items.
Please only book a space if you're sure you will be able to attend this session, as there are a limited number of spaces at each workshop and we expect high demand.
