Dorothy Fleming Lecture Theatre, Sheffield
Free
This lecture explores how anyone can become powerful agents of change in the fight against climate change. We begin by examining some of the latest climate science, highlighting the urgency of the crisis and its implications for future careers, economies, and societies.
Moving beyond awareness, we explore the psychology of motivation—how university students can harness their knowledge, networks, and skills to drive real-world impact. We explore some successful student-led movements, such as divestment campaigns, climate strikes, and sustainable innovation projects, demonstrating how young leaders are influencing policy and corporate responsibility.
We'll explore practical avenues for action, including, launching campus-wide initiatives, engaging in policy advocacy, and leveraging digital platforms for climate communication. Strategies to overcome common challenges—such as eco-anxiety, skepticism, and societal inertia—will also be discussed.
By the end of the session, you will begin to be equipped with the tools and confidence to turn passion for climate action into tangible, lasting change—on campus, in your communities, and beyond.
