Opportunity to sit in on a Coroners inquest into unexpected deaths which may be something you have to participate in in your future role as a paramedic.
We are delighted to offer students the opportunity to sit in on a Coroners inquest into unexpected or sudden deaths in the community, which may be something you have to participate in in your future role as a paramedic. Having experience of this prior to having any active part in the process will hopefully stand you in good stead should the situation occur.
This is a formal proceeding and therefore you must act in the most professional manner.
Please ensure you are happy to follow these instructions for your attendance at this event:
- Dress smartly - avoid trainers, washed denim jeans, and any outfits exposing an unneccesary amount of skin! You don't need to go suited and booted but something smart casual would be appropriate. Headwear cannot be worn in the courtroom except for religous reasons.
- Arrive early. You should arrive at least 20 minutes prior to the start of the session. Latecomers will not be waited for and will not be permittted to enter.
- No food in the court room - you can take in a bottle of water.
- No video or photos inside the building, especially the courtroom. You can take in a notepad and pen to make notes.
- Be respectful of the inquest - the family of the deceased may be present as will some of those involved in the event.
This is only available to Paramedic Science students currently studying at Sheffield Hallam towards either the BSc or Diploma. Any purchases by those not on this course of study will be cancelled.
