Recognising and Responding to Domestic Abuse
2 Hour, In-person Training with IDAS, (Independent Domestic Abuse Services).
This course is a popular one. It will be relevant to your professional work but is also a very interesting study of human behaviour and the impacts of that behaviour on others, which may make it relevant in your wider life too. With this learning we can understand how to offer support professionally and personally.
The course will cover:
A clear definition of domestic abuse within the current legal framework
The signs of domestic abuse, from the subtle clues to the obvious ones
The impacts of domestic abuse on adults, children, and young people.
How to apply professional curiosity to identify hidden abuse.
Why people might find it difficult to talk about abuse.
What risk assessment tools are available to identify the level of risk.
How to communicate in a trauma informed way; facilitating disclosure of abuse in a way that reduces further traumatisation
Referral pathways and your safeguarding responsibilities.
It's a lot to cover in two hours! Afterwards, if you think you'd like a longer training session, please sign up to one of IDAS's commissioned training courses. Sheffield City Council cover the cost of these, so it's free to you.
