Bound is the timeless directorial debut of the Wachowski sisters. This gritty noir follows Violet, girlfriend of a straight-outta-Sopranos style gangster (Caesar), and ex-prisoner butch lesbian fantasy personified, Corky. Simultaneously discovering Caesar's foul play in the mafia circle, and each other, they team up in a lustrous journey of crime fighting, crime committing, and deception in order to break out of their physical and metaphorical bounds both as queer women, and victims of crime.
Bound has all the grungy atmospheric charm of The Matrix series and all the queer delights conjured by LGBTQ+ directors Lana and Lilly Wachowski. A cult classic not just for lesbians, but for mafia bosses, women, and cinephiles alike!
As part of the Young Programmer’s specially curated Pride season, Good for Them! We've chosen Bound not just to celebrate the small community of those inspired to be gay, do crime on the back of queer activism and self-defence, but also to represent the crucial contribution trans directors have made to cinema. Because what’s better than another damsel in distress saved by a mediocre man? A mafia mistress and a butch lesbian working together to save themselves in a thrilling display of queer eroticism.
We invite you to an evening of crime-fightin’ fun! The spotlight’s on the lesbians tonight, and believe me, you’ll be leaving thinking, ay! Good for them!
