This 1 day course is run by external provider AP Training Services and is Ofqual Approved - FAA Level 2 Award.
The course leads to a qualification which provides learners with the knowledge to recognise a range of mental health conditions, how to start a supportive conversation, and when and how to signpost a person to seek appropriate professional help.
The course will cover:
- Know what mental health is, why people develop mental health conditions and the role of a First Aider for mental health
- Know how to provide advice and practical support for a person presenting a mental health condition
- Know how to recognise and manage stress
- Know how to recognise a range of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, psychosis, eating disorders, suicide, and self-harm
- Understand the impact of substance abuse on mental health
- Understand the first aid action plan for mental health and be able to put it in place
- Know how to implement a positive mental health culture in the workplace
Things to know
- Arrive at the course in plenty of time before the event so we can check you in
- Have your e-ticket ready when you arrive, this can be on your phone
- More information will be sent to you closer to the event date
- If you are late for the event and have not let us know, we may give your spot to someone on the waiting list
- Tickets are non-refundable and we will only process a refund if we are able to fund a replacement for your spot on the course
What do I need to bring?
Please bring your ticket confirmation (this can be on your phone). You may also like to bring a drink and some snacks/lunch for the day as these will not be provided.
Terms and Conditions
Tickets, Cancellations, Refunds and Adverse Weather Conditions
- All tickets once sold are strictly non-refundable in all circumstances except where an event is cancelled by Give it a Go. Notifications of cancellations will be given on social media and email where available.
- Give it a Go is open to Sheffield Hallam University students and its Alumni only. Each student must book their own ticket, however Give it a Go takes no liabilities if a guest is denied access without the proper production of an NUS or uCard.
- As the Covid-19 situation can change rapidly, we will advise you if the trip must be cancelled due to staff shortage or government restrictions. In the case of a free event, you do not need to do anything; if you have paid for the event, it will be refunded if the event must be cancelled.
Expected Conduct and Liabilities
- Please observe the authority of the event host and follow all reasonable instructions. Our staff and guides are there to keep you safe.
- We advise against you taking expensive or sentimental belongings to these events. Sheffield Hallam Students’ Union cannot be held liable or responsible for any losses sustained to property however caused.
