This show follows the different ways of processing and understanding grief. Each person has their own story and the characters are really rooted in real human experiences, as each character is based on different people that were researched and spoken to. It is simply set which aims to add to the power of each individual story. It begins with a poem and follows on into two characters with conflicting understandings of grief, one as Western culture and the other representing the opposite. This follows on to the new feeling of grief, when you recently have lost someone. There is then a connection built, between this character and the next, who is mourning someone who is still alive. However, tensions begin to build causing a large argument, cut off by the final character seeing the person that has passed away in the audience. The show ends with a poem similar to the first, to create a cyclical nature.
The show's message wants to be different for every person, because everyone processes loss in different ways. Grief isn’t just death but heartbreak, a sense of self or even leaving a friendship or family behind. All of these understandings create a powerful message that feels and is powerful for each audience member, as well as for the cast. The people the characters have lost are never mentioned, which helps with this.
